HAT GALLERY

Hat Gallery stands as a platform for dialogue and debate between art disciplines: Architecture, Design and Art. Every month a new event is taken out of the hat in an open, playful and multidisciplinary atmosphere.

An initiative held by Jaime Sanahuja’s architecture studio and Luis Eslava Studio, it allows the organization of different activities, such as exhibitions, screenings, performance and lectures about architecture and design and their relationship with the arts.

With this initiative we expect to give an incentive to Ruzafa’s cultural development and to enhance communication among creative disciplines in order to achieve interaction between professionals from different fields whose job converges during the development of many projects: architects, graphic designers, interior designers, landscape designers, urban planners, product designers as well as artists in general. So HAT GALLERY, as a meeting point for Architecture, Design and Arts, is looking for joining efforts, synergies and experiences in an open, easy and experimental environment.

PROGRAM

TRASHFORMACIONES

Huesopiel 2.0

26/04/2012 al 15/06/2012

Under the leadership of the Montoya brothers, the group Trashformaciones presents a visceral proposal half way between sculpture installation and architecture, a material-based dialogue full of modular acrobatics and referential objects. Inspired by the theories of Baudelaire, who advocated that modern artists are those who choose the topics for their art from trash and rubble, the Montoya brothers create works which, as all contemporary art, emerge from the society in which they are born, transforming materials to give them a new function, new life..

Dates: 26th April to 15th Juny. Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm / 4pm to 8.30pm
Schedule for Russafart: Friday 18th May from 7pm to 9.30pm; Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th May, from 11am to 2pm/ 6pm to 9pm.

THE FALL

29/03/2012 al 29/03/2012

GAZE VII
Film: The Fall, Tarsem Singh, India-UK-USA, 2006
Thursday 29th March, 8pm. Hat Gallery: Sanahuja Asociados Arquitectura. c/ Denia 37, bajos. Valencia

Synopsis: The Fall is a story told from a sophisticated, yet naïve point of view. It is sophisticated in terms of form and technique, and somewhat childish in terms of content, which is used just as a pretext, always at the service of the image. The impeccable photography of this Indian-born director travels the world creating make-believe stories in real settings and romantic architectures. A girl helps to ease the pain of an injured actor at the hospital and, in exchange, he gives her a story full of lyricism, set in impossible places and played by characters out of fantasy films. Reality and fiction are fused in a story whose only ambition is of an aesthetic nature.

Speaker: Alejandro García works as art director in a branding agency. His work brings together different media to generate valuable proposals for the brands he works for. Images are his means of communication, and in each project he combines different visual genres, video, editing and coordinated graphics. Nowadays projects extend beyond the mere scope of a commission and require a conceptual framework to wrap them up.

THE MAN NEXT DOOR

23/02/2012 al 23/02/2012

GAZE VI. Thursday February 23rd. 8pm
Film: The man next door (Mariano Cohn, Gastón Duprat, Argentina, 2009)

Synopsis: The films tells the story of a conflict between neighbors which seems endless. A simple wall can divide two worlds, two ways of dressing, eating, and living. On one side we have Leonardo (Rafael Spregelburd), a refined and prestigious designer who lives in a house designed by Le Corbusier. On the other side is Victor (Daniel Aráoz), a used-car salesman who is vulgar, rustic and domineering. Victor decides to construct a window to get more light, and that it's where the problem starts: each one becomes aware of the existence of the other.

Speaker: Carlos Bento Company is an architect who has been working since 1973. He was part of the group "La Nave" in the 80's. He was responsible for the refurbishment of the Botanical Garden and the ADEIT Foundation in Valencia. He has received the 94-95 COACV Award, the 97 Construmat Award, Mestres Cadena at Fad 2008, and the Fine Arts Medal of San Carlos.
